With the Strategic Master Plan for Greater Kuching now completed, a clear vision has been set for Tanjung Embang’s role within the region’s future urban landscape. Building on this foundation, the Concept Master Plan for Tanjung Embang has been developed to guide its next stage of growth.

Unlocking Opportunities for Transformation
With a land area of 110 km², Tanjung Embang is envisioned to support a future population of approximately 500,000 people. As the main driver of Greater Kuching’s urban growth, the area will host the new Central Business District, a deep seaport, new industrial estates, and residential townships.
In addition to these planned developments, Tanjung Embang is well-positioned to leverage several unique strategic opportunities. These include the proposed deep-sea port at its northern tip, a potential new Kuching International Airport, the Borneo Convention Centre, a university cluster near Kota Samarahan, and fertile agricultural land in nearby Asajaya.
An Expressway Network for Connectivity and Ecology

To ensure the liveability and long-term success of the city, a well-integrated expressway network will be crucial in facilitating smooth traffic connections between Tanjung Embang and the rest of Greater Kuching. This network will be designed to align with major urban functions, form the spatial boundaries of the new towns, and support the overall urban framework.
Given the presence of rivers and water bodies across the region, the expressways will be aligned along these natural features—preserving ecological quality while allowing residents to enjoy scenic waterways. These roads will also provide efficient linkages to the Central Business District, the deep seaport, and the future airport, while defining and connecting the two New Towns planned within Tanjung Embang.

Urban Structure of Tanjung Embang
Tanjung Embang’s urban structure will comprise two New Towns, each designed to accommodate approximately 200,000 residents and anchored by its own Town Centre. These town cores will be complemented by several Neighbourhood Centres, which will offer essential public amenities such as education, healthcare, and recreational facilities.

Designed as self-sustaining communities, the New Towns will incorporate non-pollutive light industries along their fringes to provide local job opportunities and minimise commuting needs. With employment hubs, services, and residential zones planned in close proximity, Tanjung Embang aims to offer a complete lifestyle ecosystem—where residents can live, work, learn, play, and move comfortably within their community and the wider Kuching region.

Together, the Strategic Master Plan and Concept Master Plan define the spatial development direction for Tanjung Embang. They lay the groundwork for long-term urban transformation by securing critical land use, promoting sustainable planning principles, and ensuring that the area contributes meaningfully to the continued growth of Greater Kuching and Sarawak.
