Part of the Chongqing “Two Rivers Four Banks” development, this concept master plan is set along the southern bank of the Yangtze River. Mountains flank the site, with Guangyang Island making up the centrepiece. This is said to be the second largest island along the Yangtze River. Its position means it is regarded as the Eastern Gateway to Chongqing. The concept master plan is zealous in protecting the geographical formations, and where building is possible, they are inspired by the natural context. Guanyang Island is deliberately designed to have a low population density, to conserve the pockets of green and natural river coastlines.
