Yunnan Dianzhong New District Planning & Construction Management Bureau
Planned as part of Greater Kunming, which is expected to grow to a population of 10 million, and located next to Kunming Changshui International Airport (the sixth busiest airport in China), the 30 km2 Kunming ASEAN Industrial City is planned for a population of about 200,000. Initiated by a Singaporean company that is supported by the provincial government, this industrial city is modelled after Singapore’s HDB New Towns, but with components of industrial and logistics park. With its unique location bordering China and Southeast Asia (SEA), it is well poised as the closest link to ASEAN countries and functions as a gateway to attract SEA investors from the industrial, logistics, business, financial and education sectors. Set against its natural hilly landscape, its urban design will resemble the rice terraces unique to the region, promising to become China’s first terraced city. In respect to the existing terrain, the building of viaducts and tunnels will be avoided.
