Project Type
Central Business District
Site Area
3.43km2
The project involved the redevelopment of an existing industrial area located 12km north of the main Shanghai commercial core. It is significant for being one of the last sizeable, contiguous plots of land in close proximity to the city centre. The scope encompasses the master plan of a 24km2 industrial area, detailed master plan of an 11km2 Phase 1 development and urban design of a 3.4km2 central business district. The focus is to redevelop the old Baosteel steel mill and selected industrial buildings and elements for preservation and adaptation to new uses. The new plan will also integrate mixed land uses with an extensive green network and reinvigorated waterfront, creating a central business district that is friendly to pedestrians than cars.
