Nanping City is a renowned historical and cultural destination, recognised both domestically and internationally for encompassing the natural and cultural heritage of Wuyishan, Fujian, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its natural beauty and cultural significance. In recent years, to support its development objectives, the city has relocated its government administrative center from Yanping District to Jianyang District.

This change in administrative location presents new challenges for urban development. Located at the geometric center of Nanping City, the natural mountainous terrain has created barriers between various districts and counties surrounding it.

As part of ongoing urban development efforts, MORROW has successfully conducted comprehensive, multi-level planning research on Nanping City, covering various scales ranging from the city to the core area. These include:

In the future, Nanping City will be a complete urban level in terms of overall scale and function. According to the current distribution of districts and counties, each district and county will have different positions according to the population.

After defining the overall urban structure, further refinements were made to the Jianyang Central Urban Area. The planned area is situated along both banks of Chongyang Creek, offering a scenic natural environment. However, the city’s mountainous terrain has resulted in a long and narrow urban form, presenting challenges for the efficient allocation and layout of development land.

Considering Jianyang District’s position as an independent area, along with land availability and ongoing construction, the central area has been strategically divided into three new towns. These new towns, from south to north, are Tancheng Old Town New Town, Nanlin New Town, and Xingtian New Town. Each new town features a well-equipped center, with Nanlin New Town designated as the central business district.
