Kunming Central City Master Plan

The master plan of this constellation city comprises central Kunming as the main city, Songming District and Anning District as sub-cities, and a numbers of satellite towns and neighbourhoods around the constellation city.

The Yunnan Provincial Party Committee and the Kunming Provincial Government ‘s meeting sets out three goals for Kunming, that is, for its the total GDP to exceed 1 trillion yuan by 2025; to increase its urban space to 1,000 square kilometers by 2035 and to reach a population of 10 million people. MORROW predicts that the total population of Kunming will reach 13 million by 2070, and the urban population of Kunming-Dianzhong New Area will reach 10 million in the future.

Within central Kunming, further segregation is done into five regions, each with their own commercial centres providing a balance of jobs in the services sector, land for industry, and satellite towns for the residents’ daily needs. Education, health and sport facilities are also included as part of the public amenities to enhance the quality of living.
